Qatars MoCI and Manateq sign SMI Zone agreement

26/01/25

Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) recently entered into a strategic agreement with the Economic Zones Company (Manateq) to manage the Small and Medium Industries (SMI) Zone.

As a result, the new framework forms part of Qatar’s broader strategy to enhance operational efficiency and improve services in the zone. Most importantly, it will maintain existing conditions for factory owners and operators.

The 25-year renewable concession agreement designates Manateq as the entity responsible for managing and operating the SMI Zone. Under this agreement, Manateq will develop and implement comprehensive development plans, manage their execution and oversee the delivery of essential services and infrastructure. Furthermore, the company is also tasked with ensuring the maintenance of these facilities to optimise operational efficiency and uphold performance standards.

Further responsibilities require Manateq to lease and promote land within the SMI Zone for approved activities, with the oversight and approval of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. In addition, the agreement also empowers Manateq to contract qualified third-party service providers and negotiate or amend lease agreements with tenants to ensure compliance with technical and construction standards.

While Manateq will handle day-to-day operations, MoCI will retain full oversight through its relevant departments to ensure compliance with technical requirements and regulations. This collaboration underscores MoCI’s commitment to fostering an advanced investment environment that supports the growth and sustainability of the industrial sector in Qatar.

The agreement highlights the pivotal role of small and medium-sized industries as key contributors to Qatar’s economic diversification and growth. It is aligned with the ministry’s goal of creating an integrated investment ecosystem that drives innovation, boosts industrial development, and enhances the country’s competitiveness on the global stage. Moreover, it marks a significant step towards enhancing Qatar’s industrial landscape and developing a robust, future-focused economy.
