Qatar Foundation (QF) has been leading Qatar’s efforts to diversify the economy and transform the nation into a knowledge based society.

Across the fields of IT, energy, environment and healthcare, QF’s focus on Research Development and Innovation (RDI) is introducing new technologies into the global marketplace.

As a result of its initiatives, figures show that Qatar Foundation has funded over 4,800 projects between 2007 and 2018. Furthermore, it has invested over QAR 5.09 billion (USD 1.4 billion) through its Qatar National Research Fund. A total of 331 inventions have been created within the QF research and development ecosystem and 42 Startups have been developed by Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP) since 2016. Moreover, eight patents have been granted to QF inventions.

Qatar Foundation remains focused on its quest to make Qatar a leading hub for research and innovation and is committed to helping both local researchers and innovators from around the world. It also aims to ensure its research projects span a wide range of industries and themes to contribute to solving the challenges the country faces.

One major aspect of its research programme is collaboration, which has seen it work closely with global organisations and institutions to facilitate the transfer of ideas and jointly address areas of mutual interest. Such organisations include Tubitak in Turkey, Boeing, Harvard University and MIT in the United States. Moreover, QF global partnerships span the spectrum of industry, academia, tech development and entrepreneurship and public policy.

Qatar Foundations initiatives include multidisciplinary research conferences, global summits and programmes on healthcare and education. Most importantly the foundation has founded three specialised research institutes operating under the umbrella of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HKBU).

These are the Qatar Biomedical Research Institute, Qatar Computing Research Institute and Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute.
