Qatar to invest QAR 4.6 billion in UK climate technology

29/12/24

Qatar's strategic partnership with the UK has reached a pivotal milestone, marking a significant QAR 4.6 billion (£1 billion) investment in climate technology. This landmark agreement underscores Qatar’s growing role as a global leader in sustainable energy and technological innovation.

The collaboration, expected to create thousands of highly skilled jobs, will establish world-leading climate technology hubs in both Qatar and the UK, driving the development of climate-friendly solutions and reinforcing the nation’s commitment to achieving sustainable growth.

As part of the partnership, British engineering giant Rolls-Royce will contribute to cutting-edge technology programmes designed to enhance energy efficiency, promote sustainable fuels, and reduce carbon emissions. Furthermore, the collaboration will target investment in start-ups in both nations, focusing on energy efficiency, carbon management and green power.

The climate technology hubs will be developed in strategic locations in Qatar including Qatar Free Zones. These hubs will leverage the UK’s expertise while providing start-ups in both countries with access to new markets and growth opportunities. This move will not only drive innovation in the energy sector but also attract further inward investment to both regions.

This partnership exemplifies the strength of Qatar’s commitment to advancing sustainability and innovation while reinforcing its position as a leading investment destination. Additionally, Qatar’s collaboration with Rolls-Royce further cements the strategic importance of their growing ties in technology and energy.

Furthermore, both nations are now focusing on the emerging fields of genomics and artificial intelligence (AI). Plans to establish a shared Genomics Medicine Academy and a joint AI research commission underscore Qatar’s ambition to be at the forefront of scientific and technological advancements. This forward-thinking collaboration, part of the Qatar-UK Strategic Dialogue, highlights the two countries’

commitment to leveraging science and innovation for economic growth, improved public services, and enhanced global competitiveness.
