Qatar and Saudi Arabia announce agreements across various sectors

Qatar and Saudi Arabia have signed a large number of agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoU) as relationships between both countries continue to strengthen.

The deals, which are expected to enhance trade and economic relationships, were signed during the 44th Gulf Cooperation Council Summit recently held in Doha.

Notable agreements include the signing of an MoU between the Qatar Investment Authority and Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund to accelerate investments in the energy and infrastructure sector. Another MoU was signed by both Qatar’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Saudi Arabia’s Digital Government Authority to promote cooperation in the field of digital governance. Moreover, the two sisterly countries signed an additional MoU`s to cooperate in the varied fields of diplomatic training, cooperation between financial institutions and intellectual property.

Leisure and entertainment were also discussed and resulted in a signed cooperation agreement between Qatar Media Corporation and the Saudi Broadcasting Authority to develop relations in the radio and television industries. The summit also saw both countries discuss the development of sports and leisure, which resulted in the signing of a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the fields of sports.

Furthermore, on the sidelines of the summit, the first meeting of the executive committee of the Qatari Saudi Coordination Council in Doha was held. The committee discussed ideas to develop bilateral relations within the framework of the executive committee and examined options to deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The committee agreed to meet on a regular basis to review and discuss proposals and new opportunities.
