Qatari-Russian collaboration to be explored before SPIEF 2021

07/02/21

Qatar is set to participate as a guest country at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in June 2021. SPIEF is a very well established international forum organised by the Roscongress Foundation and was founded in 1997.

The event is the largest investment and economic forum in the eastern hemisphere and will contribute to strengthening the collaboration and cooperation as well as the relations between the countries and the partnerships in the Qatari and Russian private sectors.

Additionally, the event provides a platform to present the attractive business climate in Qatar to Russians as well as the investment opportunities and possibilities in Russia to Qataris.

The bilateral trade between Qatar and Russia increased by 200% between 2012 and 2019. According to data from the Investment Promotion Agency Qatar (IPA Qatar) and the Roscongress Foundation, the trade volume between the countries amounted to QAR 730 million (USD 202 million) in 2019 compared to QAR 426 million (USD 118 million) in 2012.

The Qatar Chamber of Commerce & Industry (QCCI) participated in the SPIEF in 2019 and has signed a number of Memorandums of Understanding with the Roscongress Foundation after the event. The QCCI will participate along several ministries, organizations, institutions and bodies from Qatar.

The Qatari-Russian Business Council has been established to enhance the bilateral collaboration and cooperation and to facilitate investment and partnership between Qatar and Russia. A key role is to bring together Qatari and Russian businessmen and -women before SPIEF 2021.

Russia considers Qatar as an important partner in the Middle East, a hub for (business) operations in the region and a potential investor in Russia.

Business Start Up Qatar is working with the Investment Promotion Agency Qatar and the relevant stakeholders in Russia including, but not limited or restricted to the Qatar Russia Center for Cooperation (QRCC) to raise awareness of the possibilities and opportunities in Qatar and Russia.
